An African American is not just defined by the color of their skin but also by their heritage. Where did their ancestors come from? Yes, Barack Obama is an African American. There is no way to deny that. His ancestors are from Africa, therefore, he is a true African American.
I think that there are still people in America today that have a problem with an African American being president because they still have a very prejudice mind set and they are living in the past. The prejudice that used to define America has flown out the window. With the mindset of prejudice, hinting that a person of color would hold some kind of powerful position would be unheard of. Now, it is something that is looked upon as a great accomplishment.

I agree that Obama's election to the presidency is a great accomplishment, and it is an exciting time for the country and the world. I find myself looking eagerly at the news media in a way I haven't done in a really long time, and I see that same hopefulness in a lot of people who don't happen to be black!
